Building a cinema from the ground up
An open-air cinema needs more than a screen and rows of deckchairs. For Pluk de Nacht, CBOX containers were used as part of the structure required to create the large outdoor cinema setup.
The containers were positioned and stacked to form a substantial temporary construction. Their steel structure provided a practical base around which the cinema screen and event setup could be built.
During installation, the containers are clearly visible as individual building blocks. Once the complete cinema is ready, they become part of the overall design and almost disappear behind the screen and festival styling.
When the container becomes part of the event
Using containers this way demonstrates why they can be so useful for temporary events. Their standard dimensions make it possible to combine and stack multiple units, while their robust construction provides a solid basis for creative temporary installations. For Pluk de Nacht, what started as a stack of shipping containers was transformed into the backdrop for an open-air cinema, surrounded by hundreds of deckchairs and an audience watching films under the night sky.
Once the event is over, the temporary setup can be dismantled and the containers can be used again elsewhere. It is a simple concept with a very different end result: shipping containers as building blocks for an event experience.
