More than festival storage
Containers at festivals are often associated with storage and backstage logistics. At Dockyard, they were impossible to miss. CBOX containers were positioned throughout the festival grounds and incorporated into the visual setup of the event. Their industrial appearance fitted naturally into the Dockyard environment, while their size and modular construction offered plenty of possibilities for creative use. Some were stacked to create large structures, while others became part of areas used directly by festival visitors.
One of the clever uses of the containers was as a platform for festival information and artist timetables. Large timetable panels were mounted directly onto the container structures, turning something highly practical into a prominent visual feature. Lighting added another layer after dark, making the structures part of the atmosphere as well as helping visitors find the information they needed. Elsewhere on the site, stacked CBOX containers functioned almost like landmarks: highly visible structures that helped shape the industrial identity of the festival grounds.
Built into the festival experience
The containers were not limited to signage and decoration. A Full Side Access container was opened along its long side and furnished as a covered seating and lounge area.
It is a simple example of how a container can quickly take on a completely different role at an event.
Add furniture, branding, lighting or signage and a standard steel structure becomes part of the environment visitors actually experience.
Even the containers themselves became part of the styling, with props and other creative elements incorporated into the setup.
A blank canvas for event design
Dockyard shows another side of container use within the events industry. Storage and logistics remain important, but containers can also become highly visible components of the festival design.
They can be stacked, branded, illuminated, opened up and incorporated into temporary structures, while their industrial appearance can become an intentional part of the overall look.
And when the festival is over? The setup can be dismantled and the containers can move on to their next destination.
From practical infrastructure to a structure visitors remember, a container can be much more than somewhere to store equipment.
